Marcus Trescothick says Somerset close to T20 success

Captain Marcus Trescothick insists Somerset are "close to achieving" Twenty20 success as the county prepares for its fourth successive finals day.

Somerset, who have lost the final in each of the past three seasons, play Hampshire in the second semi-final at Cardiff on Saturday.

"The challenge is always there to play on the big ocassion," Trescothick told BBC Points West.

"To keep putting ourselves in that position, we're there or thereabouts."

And Trescothick, who featured in Twenty20 final defeats by Sussex in 2009, external, and Leicestershire in 2011, believes every ocassion is different.

"We understand we've been to finals day three years in a row and this is our fourth time now and we've not come away with the trophy at the end of the day. It's always important you manage to do so.

"You try and put measures in place and work at things during the winter. Hopefully this time around it'll be our time."

Trescothick goes into Saturday's showpiece on the back of achieving his 50th first-class century against Sussex at Taunton this week.

The former England opener resumed on 89 not out on Tuesday morning, before going on to make 123 out of Somerset's 247 in the first innings of the County Championship Division One clash.

"I didn't sleep too well last night, knowing I was on the verge of my 50th hundred and it's a proud day for me.

"To be honest it's probably 20 or 30 short of the number of centuries I should have scored by this stage of my career."
