Greg Smith and Shiv Thakor scored half-centuries for Leicestershire on a rain-affected day against Gloucestershire.
The hosts began the day on 94-3 and Liam Norwell (2-38) got rid of Josh Cobb (11), who could only add one to his overnight score.
Smith took his unbeaten 47 to 77 before being dismissed by Jack Taylor.
Thakor (68 not out) and Wayne White (20 not out) have so far put on 65 for the sixth wicket as the hosts closed 14 runs behind on 220-5.
