Kevin Pietersen: James Anderson says players will respect decision

England fast bowler James Anderson says the team will respect any decision made by the England and Wales Cricket Board over Kevin Pietersen's future.

The batsman was dropped for sending texts about his team-mates to rivals.

Anderson said the board are in talks with Pietersen before the squad for the tour of India is named on Tuesday.

"There are talks ongoing with the ECB and all Kevin and the players can do is just respect the decision the ECB comes to," he told BBC Sport.

Pietersen, 32, has not featured in an England squad since being dropped for the final Test against South Africa after admitting sending "provocative" texts to Proteas players which reportedly criticised his captain Andrew Strauss.

But the board's decision to delay the squad announcement - originally expected on Thursday - has fuelled speculation that he may be recalled for the India series in November.

England lost the Test series 2-0 to South Africa, surrendering their number one ranking to the Proteas in the process.

And, with England losing six of the 11 Tests they played after taking the top spot, Anderson admits they struggled to cope with the demands of their status as the best side in the world.

"When you are chasing a goal it's easy to motivate yourself, but once we got to number one we didn't quite get our heads round how to play when we got there," said the 30-year-old, who signed a new two-year contract with Lancashire on Thursday.

"Teams started chasing us, started to play a little bit better and we didn't really step up to the mark and keep improving. Our goal is to still get back to number one, start playing much better and winning games of cricket."
