Devon's hopes of making the knockout stages of the MCCA Trophy are all but over after a second successive loss, this time to Hertfordshire.
Devon went down by five wickets at Instow meaning they must win their final two games and hope results elsewhere go for them.
The home side reached 207-9 off their 50 overs as Gary Chappell hit 35.
But Hertfordshire made their target off 47.4 overs as Nesan Jeyaratnam's 121 not out helped them to 210-5.
Trevor Anning was the only Devon bowler to take two wickets as Herts battled back from being 7-2 at one stage before Henry Ramsden and Jeyaratnam put on 54 for the third wicket, with a fourth wicket stand of 50 between Jeyaratnam and Jamie Southgate.
Devon face Cornwall and Bedfordshire in their final two matches.
