County Championship Division One, Edgbaston:

Middlesex 428-5 dec drew with Warwickshire 374-8

Middlesex 10pts, Warwickshire 8pts

Middlesex's Tim Murtagh got his second five-wicket haul of the season as his side saw out a draw with Warwickshire.

The hosts, resuming on 267-5, made strong strides with a 55-run partnership between Rikki Clarke (66no) and Tom Milnes (24) from 13 overs.

However, Murtagh (5-85) struck a rich vein of form, taking Milnes, Jeetan Patel and Tom Allin in two overs to help his side reach two bowling points.

Rain saw the match abandoned on 374-8, but the result puts Middlesex top.

The match was effectively over as a contest when Milnes edged a four in the little play that was possible before lunch to save the follow on by reaching 279.

Clarke and Milnes's accelerated run rate helped Warwickshire race towards Middlesex's total, but the latter fell to the impressive Murtagh, who in his next over bowled Patel off stump and got the wicket of Allin.

Murtagh's form meant it was an unhappy first-class debut for Allin, who fell for a golden duck to the paceman when he edged a loose drive to Dawid Malan at slip.

But Clarke and Boyd Rankin - effectively a last-wicket partnership after Laurie Evans broke his hand on Friday - saw the hosts to a fourth batting point before the game was called off with Warwickshire still 54 behind the visitors' first innings total.
