Hampshire: Giles White delighted at Sohail Tanvir signing

Hampshire manager Giles White believes new signing Sohail Tanvir is a fine addition to the squad and says the Pakistan left-arm paceman is available for all formats of the game.

Tanvir, 28, has been granted a visa and arrives at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday.

"A lot of people know him through T20 cricket," White told BBC Radio Solent.

"He has had a lot of success around the world in various competitions but his record in four-day cricket is fine too, so he will be good addition."

Tanvir has appeared in two Tests for Pakistan, but is primarily known as a limited-overs player, having appeared in 50 one-day and 28 Twenty20 internationals.

He takes over from batsman George Bailey, who has joined Australia for the Champions Trophy

However, with four first-class hundreds to his name, Tanvir has plenty of long-form experience and has earned his all-rounder tag.

"We've had to wait for visas as we normally do," added White. "That's the nature of overseas players. It takes them time to get here.

"But he arrives on Thursday and joins us for all formats of the game so it is exciting for everyone."

White added that fitness permitting Tanvir would be available for the next County Championship game against Gloucestershire and is set to stay with Hampshire until the end of the FL t20 competition.

"He's available for all forms of the game and has a good record in all forms of the game as well.

"He's been working hard and netting back in Pakistan and has had his bags packed for a while and is very excited to be coming over here."
