Kyle Coetzer hit a magnificent unbeaten 150 to lead Northants to 320-4 on the first day of their match with Leicestershire, who had won the toss.

The Scotland opener batted for 366 minutes and faced 280 balls as he made his first century of the season.

He also shared an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 120 with Andrew Hall, who was 65 not out at the close.

Leicestershire did not help themselves by dropping a series of catches as the day went on, including one off Coetzer.

They also bowled five consecutive maidens either side of the lunch break.

BBC Northampton's Chris Egerton:

"Northamptonshire's batsmen dominated on day one of this game and for once it wasn't the lower order bailing the side out.

"The top order, in particular Kyle Coetzer, assumed a steady if steely control helped by two dropped catches.

"Careful in the main, the Scotland captain's cover drives were delightful to watch and he reached three figures in such a vein.

"A fifth win in eight matches is most definitely possible after part one with Leicestershire looking a tired side and bereft of confidence."
