Kent v Glamorgan: Match evenly poised before rain stops play

Kent and Glamorgan were evenly poised at Canterbury when rain put an early end to day one with the visitors 155-4.

Calum Haggett (3-38) gave the hosts a great start, removing William Bragg and Ben Wright to reduce Glamorgan to 19-2.

Stewart Walters (38) and Marcus North (46) rebuilt before Walters and North edged behind in quick succession.

Play was initially suspended at 15:00 BST and only briefly resumed before stumps was called with Murray Goodwin (35) and Jim Allenby (19) unbeaten.

Kent included pace bowler Mitchell Claydon, newly arrived on loan from Durham, but he had to wait for his chance as Charlie Shreck and Haggett shared the new ball and his 13 overs proved wicketless.

Walters and North added 60 for the third wicket before the former needlessly chased a wide one from Shreck and North appeared unhappy with his dismissal when the umpire ruled the ball had taken the edge to give keeper Geraint Jones his third catch.

"Honours just about even after a rain interrupted first day, but Glamorgan skipper Mark Wallace must have wondered what he had done after winning the toss and electing to bat.

"Kent's bowlers exploited damp, overcast conditions, with Calum Haggett showing great control and vim enough to force some lift out of the pitch for his three wickets.

"Walters and North showed grit on a testing strip, but were both out to poor shots and Glamorgan's hopes of building a decent total could rest on the tenacious Murray Goodwin going into day two."
