England and Pakistan drew their women's Twenty20 international series after a thrilling finale to their double-header at Loughborough on Friday.
The hosts easily won the first game as Charlotte Edwards (46) and Sarah Taylor (57) helped post 145-7, and Pakistan could only muster 75-6 in reply.
But in the second game, Nain Abidi (45) helped Pakistan to a challenging 116-8.
Though Arran Brindle (39) led a late England rally, she was run out off the last ball as they lost by one run.
England had tinkered with their line-up for the second game, with Taylor rested, captain Edwards batting at nine and the experienced Brindle at eight.
After Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat, they lost both openers within nine balls as Nahida Khan was bowled by Anya Shrubsole and Asmavia Iqbal was run out by Susie Rowe.
But Abidi and captain Sana Mir (31 not out) added a crucial 55 for the fifth wicket.
In reply, England struggled to keep up with the rate and, although Rowe (12) and Jenny Gunn (22) both cleared the ropes, the hosts were 52-6 by the time Brindle came to the crease with 8.1 overs remaining.
After Edwards fell cheaply, 13 were needed from the last over and with Shrubsole out first ball, the target was then 11 from three balls before Brindle smashed a six and a two to keep her side in the hunt.
Needing three to win - and two to tie - off the final delivery from leg-spinner Bismah Maroof, Brindle could only manage a single and was run out attempting a second run which would have tied the game.
Earlier, Edwards (46 from 33 balls) and Taylor (57 from 50) led the way as England took control of the first match.
After winning the toss, Edwards was bowled in the 11th over with the score at 77-2, but Taylor anchored the second half of the England innings, hitting three fours and a six.
Natalie Sciver - one of four players making their Twenty20 international debuts - added 19, while three wickets fell in the last seven balls, with Amy Jones run out off the last delivery without facing.
Off-spinner Danielle Wyatt (3-16) took the new ball with Kent left-arm seamer Tash Farrant (2-15), and the match was effectively over when Pakistan crashed to 23-5 within seven overs.
Nahida Khan managed an unbeaten 28, but was the only Pakistan player to pass 15 in game one.
Edwards said: "We played really well this morning, that's how we want to play our Twenty20 cricket - we got off to a good start and then bowled extremely well, so all went to plan.
"It was great to see Natasha Farrant really shine on her debut. That's been a great thing about this tour; we've been able to blood a few new players.
"There is a bigger picture here and we knew that going into the second game. Obviously we go out to win every game we play, but with what's coming up over the next 12 months there was a real opportunity in the second game to see other players in certain roles.
"Although we lost the game, we won't be dwelling on it and there are positives for us to take."
The tourists now remain in England where they face Ireland in two Twenty20 internationals and a one-day international at Moseley next week, while England are next in action in August when they host Australia in the Women's Ashes series.
