Warwickshire and England Lions bowler Chris Wright has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a stress fracture in his back.

The 27-year-old pulled up in the Bears' Championship match at Middlesex and was unable to bowl in the second innings.

After a scan last week revealed the extent of the injury, Wright now faces a six-month rehabilitation process.

"Will miss [the season] due to a stress fracture but will return stronger and better," he said on Twitter., external

Fast bowler Wright joined Warwickshire from Essex, initially on loan, in 2011, and was the Bears' leading first-class wicket-taker last season with 67 as his side were crowned county champions for the first time since 2004.

His early season form this summer earned him a four-year deal at Edgbaston and a call-up to the England Lions squad to face New Zealand in May.

However, his season has now been curtailed, having taken 27 wickets from 16 domestic games.
