FL t20: Matthew Mott claims Glamorgan can still qualify

Matthew Mott believes Glamorgan can still claim a place in the play-offs of the Friends Life t20 if they win their three remaining group games.

The club's head of elite performance says they should "try and forget" Sunday's 10-wicket defeat by Gloucestershire.

Glamorgan play Worcestershire on Tuesday, 23 July - the first of three games in Cardiff.

"The ball's still in our court in terms of if we win our games," said Mott.

Captain Marcus North scored 35 of Glamorgan's 98 for nine.

Gloucestershire easily reached that target with Chris Dent contributing 63 not out.

Mott admitted Glamorgan, who lie third in the Midlands, Wales & West Group, did not master the batting conditions.

But he hopes familiar conditions at the Swalec Stadium can help his players against Worcestershire, Northamptonshire (26 July) and Northamptonshire (30 July).

"We know those conditions well," he said.

He added: "It [Sunday's defeat by Gloucestershire] still only counts for two points lost, so whether you lose by one run or get a hiding like that, apart from your run rates, it doesn't make too much difference.

"The wicket wasn't ideal for t20 cricket.

"We didn't adapt quick enough with the bat to assess the conditions.

"I think losing those three wickets really early really hurt us.

"And we should have, even after the first over, realised that maybe 125/130 was probably something that we could defend.

"And they batted beautifully in the second half.

"This has hurt us - we came here with high expectations to do well, but the ball's still in our court in terms of if we win our games, we'll get through.

"Just because it's gone awry, there's no need to make wholesale changes."
