Somerset 2pts, Notts 3pts

Nottinghamshire opener Steven Mullaney set the tone to put his side in a good position against Somerset at Taunton.

Mullaney (75), who passed 500 first-class runs for the season, helped give the visitors a solid platform on 130-2.

David Hussey added a quick-fire 68 but George Dockrell (3-99) limited the middle-order and Notts were 240-7.

Andre Adams hit a run-a-ball 20, before Ajmal Shahzad (35 not out) and Luke Fletcher (30 not out) guided Notts to a third batting bonus point on 327-8.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle:

"It's always difficult to estimate what a par score is after the first day of a match, but it's clear that Notts would have been some way short but for a vital unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 57 between Shahzad and Fletcher.

"With impeccable timing, both batsmen played some of their finest shots of the summer, building on the good work of Mullaney and Hussey earlier."
