LV County Championship Division Two, Grace Road

Close, day three: Leicestershire 154 & 128-5 v Lancashire 380

Leics 2pts, Lancs 7pts

Division Two leaders Lancashire looked to be on course for victory against Leicestershire after dominating on a rain-affected day three at Grace Road.

Tom Smith (3-35) and Simon Kerrigan (3-52) made light work of Leicestershire's tail, resuming on 127-7, as the hosts struggled to 154 all out, 226 behind.

The follow-on was enforced, and with the first ball Kyle Hogg got Greg Smith lbw before rain stopped play at 41-3.

And with Leicestershire 128-5 at the close, the visitors appear on top.

Having been down to 53-4 following the dismissal of Shiv Thakor, Matthew Boyce (27) and Niall O'Brien (35 not out) provided some Leicestershire resistance to try and re-build their innings.

However, Boyce fell late on in the day to Andrea Angathangelou which could prove to be a decisive wicket.

BBC Radio Lancashire's Scott Read:

"Rain prevented Lancashire clinching a win inside three days at Grace Road. A four-hour delay means the Red Rose will have to comeback tomorrow.

"Lancashire were always going to enforce the follow-on this morning should the opportunity have arisen and they made light work of the Leicestershire tail to do just that. The home side three down at lunch must have been grateful when the showers came.

"Lancashire will hope the forecast for tomorrow improves if they're to stand any chance of extending their lead at the top."
