Hampshire boss Giles White in Michael Carberry tribute

Hampshire manager Giles White has paid tribute to batsman Michael Carberry after he passed 10,000 first-class runs on Sunday.

Former England international Carberry reached his milestone when he got to 61 in the match against Glamorgan, but was out shortly afterwards.

And White says the landmark shows what a key role the 32-year-old has played since joining Hampshire in 2006.

"He's been a fantastic player," White told BBC Radio Solent.

White hopes Carberry can continue his fine form and help Hampshire to more glory this season with the county still active in three competitions.

"His one-day cricket has been exceptional this year and over a couple of years," added White,

"He's found life a little bit tougher in the four-day game this year but has worked really hard. Now he looks in really good form and back to his old self and hopefully there are plenty more runs to come from Carbs.

"But 10,000 runs shows what a consistent player he has been over the years and long may that continue."
