Kyle Hogg maturing like James Anderson - Peter Moores

Paceman Kyle Hogg has gone through a similar development process to England's James Anderson, says Lancashire coach Peter Moores.

Hogg, 30, has taken 42 first-class wickets this season, including seven in the innings win against Leicestershire.

Moores told BBC Radio Lancashire: "He's matured a lot, both as a bowler and also how you handle yourself as a bowler when you get disappointment.

"He's learned how to bowl when things aren't going his way."

The former England coach continued: "It's a journey that you've seen someone like Jimmy Anderson go through internationally.

"It puts so much pressure on sides if you've got people like Glen Chapple and Kyle starting you off and they don't leak runs at all. It's a great platform to set up an innings with the ball."

And Moores believes Hogg is back to the form that saw him claim 50 victims in Lancashire's Championship-winning campaign in 2011, adding: "He's bowling fantastic - he could swing an orange at the moment."

Lancashire, the only side still unbeaten in four-day cricket this season, have a 20-point lead at the top of Division Two and are 47 clear of Gloucestershire in third.

The Red Rose county were relegated in 2012 but are handily placed to secure an immediate return to the top tier.

Much of their success this year has been based on the performances of their bowling attack, with Hogg, captain Chapple [45] and spinner Simon Kerrigan [47] doing the majority of the damage.

While Leicestershire were twice bowled out for less than 200 in their most recent win, Lancashire's victory at Grace Road was set up by a season-high opening stand of 104 between Paul Horton and Luis Reece on day one.

"It's nice to see us get a platform at the top and then build through," said Moores. "Paul's a very good player and it was great to see him come back in and do well straight away [after missing two months of the season with a finger injury].

"His experience is a nice balance to go with Luis, who has had a great season.

"We've tried all season to reward performance and not just potential. What Luis did to get into this team is score a lot of runs for the second team. It's great to see him push on and get a significant score that's made an impact on the game."
