Kent all-rounder Matt Coles has turned down a new contract and will leave Canterbury at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old came through the club's academy and made his debut in 2009.

Kent chairman of cricket Graham Johnson said: "It is disappointing Matt feels he needs to go elsewhere in search of a way to deliver to his potential.

"We wish him well and are now focused on developing our squad of players who have a desire to play for Kent and have the same vision."

Coles, who averages 20.66 with the bat and has taken 133 wickets at an average of 30.68 in first-class cricket, has decided to further his career elsewhere.

The Maidstone-born player has represented the England Lions but was sent home from the tour of Australia earlier this year for disciplinary reasons.
