Close, day one: Northants v Kent 60-1

Only 17.1 overs were possible on day one of the clash between promotion-chasing Northants and Kent.

The hosts, who went into the game 21 points clear of third-placed Essex, won the toss and put the visitors into bat.

Kent, who are not in the promotion race, had reached 60-1 before rain forced an early finish.

Andrew Hall had Sam Northeast caught behind for 14, while Robert Key was 17 not out and Daniel Bell-Drummond unbeaten on seven when the rain came.

BBC Radio Kent's Peter Guise:

"Wantage Road looked a sad desolate arena for much of the day.

"The only cricket that was possible occurred in the morning session before the rain came to deny any possibility of play after lunch, although proceedings weren't halted until 4:30pm.

"Kent included Adam Ball and young wicketkeeper Sam Billings to give them more experience of first-team cricket."
