Kent v Lancashire: Ashwell Prince plunders second ton in match

Ashwell Prince became the first Lancashire batsman in 15 years to make two centuries in a County Championship match to set the Division Two title winners on course to beat Kent.

Resuming their second innings on 73-0, Lancashire racked up 393-5, with Prince (108) and captain Paul Horton (106) both reaching three figures.

Lancashire's declaration at Canterbury set Kent a target of 418 to win.

The home side reached stumps on 32-1, for the loss of Daniel Bell-Drummond.

And it is highly unlikely that former skipper Rob Key will be able to bat after fracturing his left thumb.

Having already wrapped up promotion back to the top flight a fortnight ago, followed by confirmation last week that they would go up as Division Two champions, Lancashire had only the incentive of a ninth Championship win of the summer to play for.

But it did not stop them posting their highest second-innings score of the summer.

The openers put on a further 32 before Luis Reece was stumped for 47, giving England spinner James Tredwell the charge.

But Prince then came in to help stand-in skipper Horton put on 167 for the second wicket and there was also a half century for Andrea Agathangelou (51), Tredwell and Darren Stevens chipping in with two wickets apiece.

"As for Ashwell Prince, he continues to look a cut above, having hit a thousand runs for a second season running.

"Lancashire look likely to end the season unbeaten and will be keen to sign off in style tomorrow."
