Ashes 2013-14: England Test return excites Tim Bresnan

Tim Bresnan is "excited" to be back in England's squad for the second Ashes Test against Australia which begins in Adelaide on Thursday.

The 28-year-old played his first match since August last week in Queensland after recovering from a back injury.

Seamer Bresnan took 4-31 for England's Performance Programme team against Queensland Second XI and hit 57 not out to push his claim for a Test place.

"I'm ready," he said. "I'm excited to be back and available for selection."

A stress fracture of the back ruled Bresnan out of the fourth Ashes Test in the summer and it has taken him three months to regain his fitness but he said the plan was for him to be in contention to play in Adelaide.

"The medical team sat down then and said I may not be fit for Brisbane; there's a slim chance for Adelaide, but - if everything goes well - we can push for that," he continued.

"[Coach] Andy Flower was happy with that, so brought me along as a spare member of the team.

"It's been quite frustrating travelling with the guys and doing all the prep, knowing I probably wasn't going to play any of the warm-up games.

"But the lads have been great and pretty much treated me like one of the squad, so that's been good."

Bresnan is likely to face competition from fellow seamers Chris Tremlett and Steven Finn for a starting spot alongside more established pace bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
