Kyle Abbott: Hampshire sign South Africa seam bowler

Hampshire have signed South Africa seam bowler Kyle Abbott as their overseas player for the 2014 season.

The 26-year-old took 7-29, and had match figures of 9-68, in his only Test to date against Pakistan last year.

"To have a bowler of Kyle's quality available for the entire 2014 campaign is a huge boost," said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.

Abbott said: "It's been an ambition of mine to play county cricket and I have heard great things about Hampshire."

He has also appeared in two one-day internationals and a Twenty20 match for South Africa, and taken 165 wickets in first-class cricket at an average of 21.92.
