Close, day two: Middlesex 105, Sussex 86-3

Sussex 3pts, Middlesex 1pt

Day two of Sussex's County Championship Division One opener against Middlesex at Hove was abandoned without a ball being bowled after heavy rain.

The match is now scheduled to resume on Tuesday morning with the hosts on 86-3, having bowled out Middlesex for just 105 on the first day.

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior is 32 not out for Sussex as he bids to regain his place in the Test side.

Prior was dropped for the final two games of the winter's Ashes series.

BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms:

"Heavy overnight rain which continued throughout the morning, gave the umpires no option but to abandon play just before 2pm.

"With puddles already on the outfield a prompt start in the morning could be in doubt if there is much more rain.

"Matt Prior and Matt Machan both looked in good form in compiling the highest partnership of the match yesterday, and Sussex will be hoping the weather relents enough to allow them to press home their advantage tomorrow."
