Jonathan Trott: Warwickshire wait to make decision on batsman

Trott began his comeback after his Ashes Tour exit in a pre-season friendly for Warwickshire

Warwickshire will talk to Jonathan Trott and his advisors about when he can return to County Championship duty.

The 33-year-old England batsman hit his second successive century for Warwickshire's second XI on Tuesday.

He has not played first-class cricket since taking a break after the first two games of the season because of "anxiety" problems.

"I can't tell you when Jonathan will be back into Championship cricket," said director of cricket Dougie Brown.

"We'll speak to Jonathan and his advisors and make sure the right decision is reached."

Trott, who has played 49 Tests, left England's winter Ashes tour early because of a stress-related condition.

Trott was at Epsom on Derby Day earlier this month with some of his England team-mates

Following an unbeaten 138 for Warwickshire second XI against Durham earlier this month, Trott returned to the first team in the T20 Blast last week, scoring one against Northants and 39 against Worcestershire.

He made 130 for the second team in a friendly against Worcestershire at Barnt Green on Tuesday as the Bears closed on 365-5.

Brown told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "He is an outstanding four-day cricketer, an outstanding Test player and it's great to see him scoring runs in the second team."

Warwickshire face Nottinghamshire in Division One of the Championship at Edgbaston starting on Sunday, a game for which captain Jim Troughton is doubtful.

The 35-year-old former England one-day batsman scored a half-century against Northants last week on his return after a year out following back surgery, but made only 23 and nine in this week's innings defeat by Yorkshire at Edgbaston.

"He was in a bit of discomfort," said Brown. "He'd been very stiff in the last couple of days and he was visibly impaired when he was out there batting.

"We just need to wait and see how Trouts is on Saturday before making any decision as to whether he plays on Sunday or not."
