South Africa Test star Jacques Rudolph led the resistance as Glamorgan avoided the threat of being made to follow on.

Resuming on 266-5, teenager Tom Kohler-Cadmore went for 85 as Worcestershire were all out for 352 at New Road.

The injured Rudolph responded with 88, only to miss out on a third successive Championship century when his runner, Tom Lancefield, was run out by a direct hit from Saeed Ajmal at midwicket.

But Mark Wallace came in to see Glamorgan safely to the close on 222-6.

At 190-6, following the loss of Rudolph, who was struggling with a calf injury, Glamorgan were still 13 runs short of their first target - the follow-on figure.

But those brief fears were soon allayed by visiting skipper Wallace, who hit five fours in an unbeaten 33 as he led his team into safer waters in the final half hour before the close.

Saeed Ajmal, the County Championship's top wicket taker, claimed two more scalps, to take his tally for the season to 46.

And, after giving him special permission to play for his county, the England selectors would have been pleased to see Moeen Ali turn in a spell of 15-2-37-1, having previously bowled only 78.5 overs in five previous Championship appearances this season.

Worcestershire assistant coach Matt Mason:

"We have had two really good days on a really good cricket pitch. Day one went to plan and we kicked on again today.

"Rudolph's innings has kept them somewhere near but I think we are the happier of the two teams. It will be a big first session in the morning."

BBC Hereford & Worcester's Dave Bradley:

"Another good day's cricket when two men batting on one leg got past 80 - Tom Kohler-Cadmore for Worcestershire and Jacques Rudolph for Glamorgan.

"Kohler-Cadmore looked set for his maiden hundred before being undone by a grubber from Jim Allenby.

"But Rudolph's runner, Tom Lancefield, was involved in his downfall, run out by a direct throw from Saeed Ajmal.

"The ball appears not to be turning as yet, but Ajmal troubled most, Rudolph playing him as well as anyone, driving him for four off three successive deliveries."
