Somerset: Craig Kieswetter out after suffering facial injury

Wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Kieswetter will miss the rest of the game with a facial injury

Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter broke his nose and fractured his eye socket on Saturday after he was struck by a ball on day one of the Championship match with Northants.

Kieswetter retired hurt with visitors Somerset on 143-4, after David Willey's delivery came through his helmet visor.

He confirmed on Twitter on Monday that he was to undergo surgery, but had not suffered any lasting damage to his eye.

It is not known how long the 26-year-old will be out of action.

"Craig is in very safe and capable hands at this time," said director of cricket Dave Nosworthy.

"These freak cricketing accidents happen from time to time and I am confident with the right care that he will come through this setback."

South Africa-born wicketkeeper-batsman Kieswetter has played 46 one-day internationals and 25 T20 internationals for England, the most recent in India in early 2013.

He is the second highest run scorer in the domestic T20 Blast competition this season with 497 from 11 games.
