Close, day one: Glamorgan 138 v Derbyshire 142-6

Derbyshire 3pts; Glamorgan 2pts

Seamer Alex Hughes recorded career-best figures to put Derbyshire into a strong position against Glamorgan.

The hosts put the Welsh side in to bat, and Tony Palladino (3-14) took the initiative to leave them 13-3.

Murray Goodwin (44) and Mark Wallace (30) led a brief fightback with a 64-run sixth-wicket stand, but Hughes (4-46) saw them all out for just 138.

Derbyshire slumped to 63-3 but Wes Durston (50) and Ben Slater (40) helped them close four runs ahead on 142-6.

Durston, who hit his fourth half-century of the summer, and Slater put on 63 for the fourth wicket to help give their eighth-placed side every chance of leapfrogging Glamorgan in sixth.

However, Michael Hogan (2-37) - who bowled Tom Taylor first ball - and James Harris (2-41) restricted the hosts, and will be hoping to keep the score down on day two.
