Sussex 4pts; Warwickshire 2pts |
Jonathan Trott hit his second half century of the summer to help Warwickshire fight back against Sussex.
Sussex added 99 to their overnight score to reach 413 - Ben Brown (49) and James Tredwell (33) adding 71 for the eighth wicket as Boyd Rankin took 3-73.
Warwickshire lost Ian Westwood and Will Porterfield early on, but Trott and Varun Chopra (81) put on 125.
Chopra edged Lewis Hatchett (39-2) behind but Trott stood firm on 62 not out as his side closed on 163-3.
Trott's knock did not come without its chances, having survived an lbw shout when on 21 before Brown missed a chance off spinner James Tredwell on 58.
But Trott remained, and now has 243 runs from his four Championship games so far this season, having had to leave England's Ashes tour early last winter because of a stress-related illness.
Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson:
"It's the sort of wicket where it looks flat once batsmen get in. But if you get a wicket you always feel you can get another quickly. Today was the best day for batting.
"We got ourselves a good total and then, on another day, we could have had them five down.
"But we dropped a couple of catches and we need to go again tomorrow. Jonathan Trott has a good record against us but we just have to approach tomorrow with the same intensity and hope things go our way."
