Durham v Notts: Paul Collingwood gives hosts upper hand

An unbroken 59-run eighth-wicket stand between Paul Collingwood (38) and Paul Coughlin (36) put Durham on top against Nottinghamshire on day two.

Resuming on 66-4, Riki Wessels top scored for Notts with 37 as Australian John Hastings took 4-64 to bowl the visitors out for 188, 65 runs behind.

Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings then shared a half-century opening stand before both fell to Gary Keedy (4-56).

Durham lost five wickets for 32 runs in 10 overs to end 196-7, 261 runs ahead.

It was another astonishing day in the field for both sides as wickets continued to tumble and captain Collingwood also took 3-23 as title chasing Notts were dismissed cheaply.

Nottinghamshire's bowling coach Keedy, who is playing after being registered as player for the county side in case there was a shortfall of players, claimed a wicket with his first ball in all forms of cricket this season and got three wickets for 12 runs in 31 balls.

However Collingwood's half-century partnerships with Gordon Muchall (36) and Coughlin gave Durham the upper hand as they battle to move out of the relegation places.
