Rushworth stunned by record haul

Seamer Chris Rushworth said his record-breaking 15-wicket haul in Durham's win against Northants was reward for disciplined bowling.

Alan Walker's figures of 14-117 in 1995 had been the county's best individual match tally, but Rushworth's 15-95 broke that 19-year record.

"It's been a nice day," 28-year-old Rushworth told BBC Newcastle.

"Things have happened very fast and it's just a reward for putting the ball in the right area."

He continued: "For anyone to take wickets and for us to win the game was the important thing."

Rushworth took all 15 of his wickets in one day, the first player to do so since 1939.

And Walker's record proved a motivation for him, having lost the chance to take all 10 in the first innings by Ben Stokes' dismissal of tail-ender Maurice Chambers.

"It's a nice record to have, but most importantly we're winning games and are getting a boost up the league," Rushworth said

"But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about a 10-for.

"That was in my head, when I got seven or eight in the first innings, Mark Stoneman mentioned to me Walker's record.

"I was only going to bowl two or three overs second innings, but when I picked up a few quick ones I thought I would get greedy and go for it."
