Sussex seam bowler Steve Magoffin has signed a new two-year contract, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2016 season.

The 34-year-old Australian was the leading wicket-taker in Division One this year, taking 72 wickets at an average of 19.51.

"It's been an incredible year for me personally, to do so well and contribute to the team," he said.

"I've been here for three seasons now and I've enjoyed every minute of it."

Magoffin joined Sussex ahead of the 2012 campaign and has been the cornerstone of the Sussex bowling attack since moving to Hove.

He took match figures of 9-55 on his debut and went on to finish the 2012 campaign with 57 first-class wickets at an average of 20.05.

Sussex captain Ed Joyce on Steve Magoffin:

"He's a pleasure to captain and has grown into being an impressive leader for both the younger bowlers in the squad, and rest of the team in general."

The right-armer surpassed that total in 2013, picking up 63 wickets at 21.49.

"I feel I'm playing really good cricket here at Sussex," Magoffin added.

"The team is heading in the right direction and if I can go close to replicating some of those efforts from the past couple of years, then hopefully we can move up that ladder a bit further."

Sussex captain Ed Joyce described Magoffin as the best seamer in Division One of the County Championship.

"We're blessed to have got his signature for another couple of years," the Irishman said.

"He's a pleasure to captain and has grown into being an impressive leader for both the younger bowlers in the squad, and rest of the team in general."
