Jack Shantry: Worcestershire seamer extends contract

Shantry's ton in the season's final home game against Surrey inspired his team to promotion
Worcestershire left-armer Jack Shantry has been rewarded for the prominent role he played in inspiring the county to promotion to Division One by signing an extended three-year contract.
Shantry, who had a year left on his current deal, will remain at New Road until the end of the 2017 campaign.
The Shropshire-born cricketer becomes the 11th player to sign a new contract since the start of August.
"He makes the most of every ounce of what he has," said coach Steve Rhodes.

Since making his debut for the county in 2009, Shantry has taken 165 first-class wickets, as well a further 76 in List A and 70 in Twenty20 cricket. |
In addition, he has scored 1,070 first class runs at an average of nearly 20. |
He is the son of former Gloucestershire, Dorset and Shropshire left-armer Brian Shantry and brother of ex-Northants, Warwickshire and Glamorgan and Warwickshire seamer Adam Shantry, another left-armer. |
England goalkeeper Joe Hart, who played cricket and football with Shantry in their native Shrewsbury as kids, remains one of his best mates. Hart, it is said, was good enough to have made it in first-class cricket, while Shantry still maintains that he is better 'in nets'. |
"If all players did that, we'd be in a really healthy state. He wants to make sure he contributes for the team with both bat and ball.
"Although he is not an elder statesman, Jack is now one of the older and more senior players.
"Next year is Division One cricket, which is going to be a step up from this year, and we are very optimistic that he can once again have as good a season as he had this year."
Shantry ended the campaign having almost progressed to genuine all-rounder status, with 56 Championship wickets and 481 runs at an average of 28, topped by his promotion-sealing performance in Worcestershire's final home game.

With Worcestershire's promotion hopes starting to wobble, his first Championship century helped to rescue the game against Surrey, with Rhodes likening his performance to that of Ian Botham in England's famous Ashes win over Australia at Headingley in 1981.
Then, having already taken 6-87 in Surrey's first innings, Shantry responded with an unbroken 15-over spell which brought him 4-40 to complete another career first - his maiden 10-wicket match haul.
"Since making my debut at 21, I have loved every minute of playing for the club," said Shantry. "The club is developing on and off the pitch and I want to be an important part of the team as we look to cement ourselves in Division One.
"I feel I can continue to improve in this environment and push for higher honours with the club."
