Australia opener David Warner's third consecutive Test hundred could not prevent Pakistan seizing the upper hand in the first Test in Dubai.

Warner, 27, is the seventh Australian to achieve the feat, the most recent of whom were Don Bradman in 1948 and Adam Gilchrist in 2005.

The left-hander was the only Australian to pass 50 as they were bowled out for 303 in reply to Pakistan's 454.

The hosts reached 38-0 by close of play on day three for a lead of 189.

Warner, who was fortunate not to be given out lbw to spinner Mohammad Hafeez for 83, had scored 135 and 145 against South Africa in Cape Town in his previous two Test innings.

"It comes with a lot of luck," he said. "I've had a couple of chances dropped in South Africa and here, if I was reviewed, I was out as well.

"That's the game. Sometimes it's in your favour. Sometimes you nick the first few in your next couple of innings. You have to keep riding that rollercoaster of being in form."

Having resumed on 128-0, Australia failed to compile a single fifty partnership as leg-spinner Yasir Shah took 3-66 on his debut.

In Pakistan's first innings, Younis Khan equalled Inzamam-ul-Haq's national record of 25 Test centuries and became the first Pakistani to score hundreds against all Test-playing nations.
