Pakistan v Australia: Younus Khan hits double century in Abu Dhabi

Younus is the 33rd player to score three hundreds in successive Test innings

Younus Khan struck his fifth Test double century as Pakistan continued to dominate the second and final match against Australia in Abu Dhabi.

The 36-year-old, who recorded his third successive Test hundred on day one, made 213 as his team declared on 570-6.

He also became the third Pakistan batsman to pass 8,000 Test runs.

Australia, who trail 1-0 after a 221-run defeat in the first match, lost Chris Rogers in the penultimate over and closed 548 runs adrift at 22-1.

Younus has scored 422 runs in his three innings in the series and his team are within sight of their first series victory against Australia for 20 years.

On the opening day he had become the 33rd player in Test history to have scored three consecutive centuries.

Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara struck three successive tons against different opposition on three separate occasions, while Australian Jack Fingleton, South African Alan Melville and India's Rahul Dravid all scored four in a row.

West Indian Everton Weekes holds the Test record with five consecutive hundreds in 1948.

On day two at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Mitchell Starc claimed the lone wicket of the morning session when Azhar Ali (109) edged to stand-in wicketkeeper David Warner, temporarily deputising for the injured Brad Haddin, who had injured his shoulder.

It ended a stand of 236 but Younus then added 181 with his captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who made his sixth Test hundred, and Pakistan's seventh of the two-match series.

Warner dropped Younus on 112 off paceman Mitchell Johnson when fielding in the gully and then missed a stumping chance on 125 off spinner Nathan Lyon.

The batsman completed an eventful day by striking three fours in the opening over of the Australia innings from seamer Imran Khan.

Imran, in his second Test, angled one away from left-hander Rogers and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed took a catch low to his left, before bad light ended play for the day seven balls later.
