Chris Read extends Nottinghamshire contract

Wicketkeeper and Championship captain Chris Read has signed a new deal which will keep him at Nottinghamshire until the end of the 2016 season.

The 36-year-old, who stood down as one-day skipper last season, rediscovered his form with the bat in the four-day game last term, scoring 877 runs at an average of 43.85 and taking 54 catches.

"At this stage in my career I do take it year by year," Read said.

"But I'd like to play on for the next two seasons as a bare minimum."

Read has kept wicket for Notts in all formats of the game since 1998 and has scored a total of 14,191 first-class runs.

Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "He's a key player for us and still leads the way in his approach to matches and training.

"He has a lot of cricket left in him and I fully expect him to sign a further extension when the time is right."
