Batsman Shaun Marsh has been added to the Australia squad for the first Test against India, which begins in Adelaide on Tuesday.

The match will be Australia's first since the death of Phillip Hughes.

Left-hander Marsh, 31, provides cover for captain Michael Clarke, who has been suffering with a hamstring injury.

All 12 that were in the squad for the original first Test in Brisbane - which had been scheduled to start on Thursday 4 December - have been retained.

They include Marsh's brother Mitchell and uncapped pace bowler Josh Hazlewood.

Australia squad: Michael Clarke (captain), Chris Rogers, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh, Brad Haddin (wicketkeeper), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Ryan Harris.
