Tour match, Soweto (day one of three):

England Lions 361-4 v Gauteng Invitation XI

Jonathan Trott was dismissed for six on his return to international cricket with England Lions in South Africa.

The 33-year-old batsman was caught behind off the 13th ball he faced against a Gauteng XI in Soweto, the Lions' opening tour game.

It was his first innings for an England side since he left the Ashes tour with a "stress-related illness" in 2013.

Sam Robson and Adam Lyth made centuries as England reached 361-4 after the first day of the three-day game.

Trott, who has scored 3,763 runs in 49 Tests, was named in the 14-man Lions squad after averaging 47.69 for Warwickshire in the County Championship in 2014.

Robson, England's current Test opener, hit 109 and Lyth, one his rivals for that position, made 106, putting on 176 for the first wicket after captain Trott lost the toss.

Alex Lees, Lyth's Yorkshire team-mate, was unbeaten on 82 at the close of play.

The Lions will play two four-day games and five one-day matches against South Africa A, with Trott included only for the first-class fixtures.

South Africa-born Trott spent four months away from cricket after leaving Australia in November 2013, during which time he said his departure was down to being "emotionally and mentally spent".

When he returned, he was part of the Warwickshire squad for less than a month before a recurrence of his anxiety issues forced him to take a month-long break.

He made his playing comeback in May, scoring three hundreds in the Championship and averaging 54.22 as Warwickshire reached the final of the One-Day Cup.
