Cricket World Cup 2015: Irish beat Bangladesh in final warm-up

Andrew Balbirnie's unbeaten 63 helped Ireland to a four-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their last World Cup warm-up match in Sydney on Thursday.

Max Sorensen and John Mooney each picked up three three wickets as Bangladesh were bowled out for 189.

Ireland were 78-4 before a 59-run stand between Ed Joyce (47) and Balbirnie guided them to 190-6 in 46.5 overs.

The Irish, who lost their opening two warm-ups, start the World Cup against the West Indies in Nelson on Monday.

This was a much-needed confidence boosting win after defeats by Sydney club side Randwick Petersham and Scotland.

Ireland won the toss and opted to field at the Blacktown International Sportspark, although Bangladesh made steady progress and reached 104-3.

But the wickets started to tumble with Sorensen (3-31) and Mooney (3-32) doing most of the damage.

Kevin O'Brien, George Dockrell and Andrew McBrine each claimed a wicket while Soumya Sarkar top-scored with 45.

Irish opener William Porterfield hit 24 but it needed the stand between Joyce and Balbirnie to steady the innings.

Kevin O'Brien struck a valuable 23 off 16 balls in a stand of 41 with Balbirnie, who saw Ireland home with 19 balls to spare.

Ireland now fly to New Zealand with their opener against the West Indies the first of six Pool B matches.
