Scotland captain Preston Mommsen is under threat of a one-match suspension

Scotland's players have been fined for a slow over rate in their tense World Cup defeat by Afghanistan.

The International Cricket Council deemed the Scots were "one over short of its target" in Dunedin on Thursday.

The Scots were fined 10% of their match fees, with captain Preston Mommsen, who pleaded guilty to the offence, paying double the amount.

Mommsen will receive a one-match suspension if he is again found guilty of the same offence in this tournament.

Afghanistan were chasing a target of 211 and won the game with one wicket and three balls to spare for their first-ever win in the global competition.

Scotland are yet to win a match at a World Cup, having lost all 11 games they have played across three tournaments.
