England have appointed Ottis Gibson as their fast bowling coach for their tour of the West Indies, starting in April.

The 46-year-old former Windies bowler takes over from David Saker, who is to become head coach of Big Bash League side Melbourne Renegades.

Gibson moves back into a role he held between 2007 and 2010 before being succeeded by Saker.

The England and Wales Cricket Board's managing director Paul Downton said: "This is a short-term appointment."

He added: "No decision has yet been made on a long-term replacement for David and we will need to review how we staff this position following the conclusion of the West Indies tour."

England will play three Tests against the Windies as they try to bounce back from the disappointment of their World Cup campaign and Downton says Gibson's "knowledge and experience of local conditions will be invaluable in the Caribbean".

Gibson took over as head coach of West Indies, external after resigning from his post as England bowling coach in 2010.

But, after nine wins in 36 Tests, he left the role by "mutual agreement" in August 2014.
