Alviro Petersen scored a century on his debut for Lancashire as they shared an evenly matched first day against Derbyshire at the County Ground.
The South African came to the crease with the visitors five for two and hit 14 fours as he made 115 off 198 balls.
However, he became Mark Footitt's (2-63) 200th first-class scalp as he was caught at square leg by Martin Guptill.
An 86-run seventh-wicket partnership between Alex Davies and Peter Siddle took Lancs to 292-8 at the close.

The last time Alviro Petersen visited the County Ground he bagged a king pair - a first ball duck in each innings - for Glamorgan in 2011 |
Derbyshire's decision to bowl seemed a good one as Tony Palladino had Paul Horton caught behind for five before Footitt bowled Luis Reece for a duck.
Petersen's 135-run fifth-wicket partnership with captain Tom Smith (38) helped to rebuild the away side's innings after they had been reduced to 55-4.
And, wicketkeeper Davies (40) and bowler Siddle (46) consolidated Lancashire's innings after their top-order failed to fire.
Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen:
"If I'm honest, I thought we probably let them off the hook a little bit.
"We had chances to have them in a lot of trouble, although to be fair Smith and Petersen played well, but after winning the toss we were hoping to keep them under 250 or 270 but we feel we are still well in the game."
Lancashire cricket director Ashley Giles:
"(We're) pretty pleased having lost the toss on a wicket that offered a little bit up front.
"Being 5-2 I thought we fought back very well. Alviro and Ashwell took the sting out of them and Alviro went on and played beautifully."
