Craig Meschede hit 68 off just 52 deliveries for Glamorgan

Craig Meschede believes Glamorgan can put pressure on Essex on day three at the Swalec Stadium despite a fighting display from the visitors' batsmen.

Essex reached 183-4 in reply to Glamorgan's 314 all out.

All-rounder Meschede hit 68 off just 52 deliveries, including three sixes off one over from Adeel Malik.

"We've got ourselves in a really good position, we did a good job to get to 300 and 300 on that wicket is a winning position to be in," Meschede said.

"My initial game plan was to see the first couple of balls and be as positive as I can. I feel I'm a better batter when I am positive and it seemed to pay off."

Meschede's stand of 92 with Graham Wagg for the seventh wicket has been the highest of the rain-affected match so far.

With the weather set to improve in Cardiff, Meschede believes Glamorgan's run of draws will come to an end.

"If we bowl them out for less than our score, we can definitely post a winning total," he added.

"They batted well to start but I think the pitch is quite inconsistent. We've got to be patient but if we get a couple of early wickets the pressure is really going to be on them."

Glamorgan were left a bowler short when seamer David Lloyd pulled up with a tweaked hamstring in his fifth over, after removing Essex openers Jaik Mickleburgh and Nick Browne in quick succession.

Will Bragg was called on to fill in as the extra seam bowler while 12th man duties went to Bermudan Cardiff MCCU student Kamau Leverock, nephew of Dwayne, a cult figure from the 2007 World Cup.

Glamorgan will also be anxious for South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell to prove his fitness before the T20 Blast game against Essex on Friday.

Parnell said he was "hopeful" of playing after missing the opening win over Surrey with a groin strain.
