Craig Meschede hit a career-best 107 to help Glamorgan turn their fortunes around against Northants at Cardiff.
The hosts were reduced to 92-4 as Jacques Rudolph, Will Bragg, Ben Wright and Colin Ingram all went leg before.
But Meschede, coming in at number eight, put on a 108-run seventh-wicket stand with Chris Cooke (73).
Glamorgan were finally bowled out for 371, allowing Northants to face just one over before the close, which they saw out without troubling the scorers.
South African-born Meschede reached his second ton of the summer off 94 balls, including 17 fours and one six, before becoming one of Rory Kleinveldt's three victims.
There were also significant contributions from Ruaidhri Smith, 49 not out after coming in at No 10, and South African left-hander Colin Ingram (45).
Glamorgan centurion Craig Meschede:
"My aim was just to rebuild because they were bowling really well in consistent areas, but Cooky batted really well.
"I just wanted to keep things ticking over, but once I was around the 87-mark I thought I could crack on and get another hundred, so it was nice to get a career-best.
"It was a really good recovery because of the position we were in."
Northants head coach David Ripley:
"We thought it was a good toss to win and at 150-6 it was looking that way. It's a mixture of disappointment that we let it slip and Glamorgan batting very well.
"They wrestled it away from us with a hundred partnership off about 100 balls between Cooke and Meschede.
"We couldn't stop the momentum. Having put them in and with them getting 371, I think Glamorgan shaded the day."
