Glamorgan CCC have brought three Championship titles back to Cardiff in their history

Former fast bowler Hugh Griffiths, the last but one surviving member of Glamorgan's 1948 Championship-winning side, has died at the age of 91.

Griffiths played for Glamorgan as an amateur between 1946 and 1948 while also representing Cambridge University, gaining three Blues from Varsity match appearances.

He gave up county cricket for a legal career, becoming a High Court judge and Justice of Appeal before being elevated to the peerage as Baron Griffiths of Govilon in 1985.

Flags were flown at half-mast in tribute at both Glamorgan and Lord's, where he had served as MCC President.

Baron Griffiths was educated at Charterhouse School and served in the Welsh Guards, winning a Military Cross.

His Glamorgan appearances were limited by his time at Cambridge University and legal career commitments.

His passing leaves 92-year-old Jim Pleass as the only surviving player from the 1948 season, which marked the first of Glamorgan's three Championship titles.
