Rory Burns made an unbeaten ton as Surrey and Lancashire drew at the Oval.
Ninth and tenth-wicket partnerships in excess of fifty took Lancashire to 429 all out on day four, a deficit of 19.
With a draw likely after numerous rain delays, Zafar Ansari and Burns shared an unbroken 186-run stand before the captains shook hands shortly after tea.
Burns hit 14 fours in his 110 not out off 200 balls, while Ansari struck six boundaries to finish on 66, his highest first-class score of the season.
Lancashire remain top of Division Two, holding a lead of 31 points over second-placed Surrey, who have a game in hand.
Surrey batsman Rory Burns:
"It was nice to get the hundred, I have made a few starts so it was good to finally get over the line.
"We knew they were going to come hard at us, especially in the first hour and if things happened for them the game would have moved forward so it was important for me and Zafar Ansari to nullify that.
"We probably had a couple of chances that we missed but it is a pretty tough wicket to get a result on."
