Shahid Afridi took seven wickets during his six-game T20 spell at Northants

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi barely cost Northants any money during his brief stint at the club, according to head coach David Ripley.

Sunday's T20 Blast win at Yorkshire was the last game of his six-match spell.

"We were in the right place at the right time. For such a big name, it hasn't cost us a great deal at all," Ripley told BBC Radio Northampton.

"Some private sponsors helped us and he was through here on his way to the Caribbean Premier League."

The 35-year-old, who will join up with St Kitts & Nevis in the CPL, scored 93 runs at an average of 31 in his six T20 Blast innings, while his seven wickets came at an average of 19.86.

Northants are currently seventh in the North Group, just one point outside the top four, and Ripley is hopeful that they could get Afridi back if his side were to reach the last eight in August.

"He's been good to have in the dressing room," Ripley added. "He's been a little unfortunate with the weather being so cold for spin, and the Leicestershire game getting rained off.

"We hope we might get him back if we are to progress any further in the competition."
