England v New Zealand: Jordan & Plunkett to miss rest of ODI series

Chris Jordan and Liam Plunkett will miss the rest of England's one-day series with New Zealand through injury.

All-rounder Jordan hurt his side in Friday's 13-run defeat at The Oval that levelled the five-match series at 1-1.

Uncapped Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton, 21, has been added to the squad for Sunday's third ODI in Southampton as cover for Jordan, 26.

Fast bowler Plunkett has a thigh strain and a decision on who will replace him is expected to be made on Sunday.

Both Jordan and Plunkett, 30, played in the opening two ODIs, helping England claim a record-breaking 210-run win at Edgbaston before New Zealand hit back on Friday.

Jordan conceded 97 runs for one wicket from nine overs on Friday, while Plunkett took 1-71, also from nine overs, before smashing 44 from 30 balls as England fell just short of the victory target.

Overton took two wickets in each innings for Somerset in their tour match against New Zealand in May

Overton, who had ankle surgery in February, has taken 20 wickets in four Championship matches this season.

His twin brother Jamie was in a one-day squad in 2013 but did not play.

Since then, Craig - who is three minutes older than his brother - has featured for England Lions in their triangular one-day series against New Zealand A and Sri Lanka A last summer.

He toured South Africa with the Lions at the start of this year, but a recurrence of his ankle injury forced him to have surgery.

After Sunday's game, the remaining two matches in the series take place at Trent Bridge on 17 June and Chester-le-Street on 20 June.
