West Indies v Australia: Tourists closing in on second Test victory

Australia are closing in on victory over the West Indies as the hosts closed day three on 16-2, chasing 392 to win the second Test in Jamaica.

Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Rajendra Chandrika both fell without scoring to Mitchell Starc just before the close.

Australia declared their second innings on 212-2 as Shaun Marsh, David Warner and Steve Smith compiled fifties.

Jason Holder earlier hit an unbeaten 82 from 63 balls to save West Indies from following on in their first innings.

Holder, who scored an unbeaten century against England in April, hit 12 fours and two sixes in his quick-fire innings.

He shared a ninth-wicket partnership of 87 with Kemar Roach, who scored seven, before Josh Hazlewood (5-38) took the final two wickets as the hosts were dismissed for 220.

Australia already lead 1-0 in the two-Test series.

Ahead by 179 after the first innings, the tourists piled on the runs with Marsh and Warner sharing an opening stand of 117 before the latter was caught behind off Roach for 62.

Marsh fell to left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul for 62 but Steve Smith, who scored 199 in the first innings, added an unbeaten 54 before captain Michael Clarke called a halt.

Australia won the first match of the series in Dominica by nine wickets and are on course for a fourth successive series win in the Caribbean.

They begin their defence of the Ashes against England in Cardiff on 8 July.
