County Championship: Graham Wagg stars for Glamorgan

32-year-old Wagg has made three first-class centuries in 120 appearances

Graham Wagg's fine century helped Glamorgan recover from an early clatter of wickets against Surrey at Guildford.

Surrey ended their first innings on 406 after resuming day two on 289-6, with Michael Hogan (2-70) dismissing Zafar Ansari (91) with his third ball.

Glamorgan's reply started badly as slumped to 54-5, including the wicket of captain Jacques Rudolph for 13.

Wagg (116 not out) equalled his highest first-class score as he led Glamorgan to 323-8 at stumps, trailing by 83.

Earlier in the day, Wagg (4-89) took two quick wickets to end Surrey's first innings, before rescuing Glamorgan after their early wobble.

Coming in at 106-6, Wagg enjoyed a 152-run stand with Mark Wallace (92) before Wallace fell lbw to Tom Curran (3-76).

Wagg however brought up his century from 99 balls as Glamorgan scored at more than 4.5 runs an over throughout their innings to leave the game delicately balanced.

Surrey wicketkeeper Gary Wilson told BBC London 94.9:

"Graham Wagg and Mark Wallace played very well. We had a chance we didn't quite take off Wallace, but we've still got a lead and any sort of lead on that wicket could prove to be crucial at the end.

"It's a difficult wicket especially with the new ball swinging around. We're 10 overs away from the new ball tomorrow morning and we want to try and wrap their innings up as quickly as possible."

Glamorgan all-rounder Graham Wagg told BBC Wales:

"Mark Wallace and myself have once again tried to take the initiative from the bowlers, it might have seemed easy from the run-rate but they bowled pretty well.

"Credit to Surrey, they got early wickets but we did counter-attack them and put them on the back foot.

"That's the way the game's moving forward, you need to be positive. Craig Meschede has done it twice before for us and got us out of trouble (with centuries), and myself and Mark did it today."
