Eoin Morgan: Attacking England 'can beat the best'

England can beat the best in the world with their new-found aggression and adventure, says limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan.

A 56-run Twenty20 victory over New Zealand came after a 3-2 win in the one-day series and with the Ashes set to begin on 8 July.

"Sometimes it might not come off, but when we do play that way we win games of cricket," said Morgan.

"These wins reinforce that to everyone in the dressing room."

England's resurgence in white-ball cricket comes after a dismal World Cup in which they were knocked out in the first round.

With Paul Farbrace in temporary charge before Trevor Bayliss takes over as coach, England smashed a record 1,617 runs in the one-day series to beat a New Zealand side that reached the World Cup final.

"This felt a million miles away after the World Cup," said 28-year-old batsman Morgan.

"We had a lot of hard work to do, but it has turned around pretty quickly and that is credit to Paul Farbrace, the rest of the backroom staff and the way the squad have bought into what we want to be about as a side."

England's impressive one-day performances came with an aggressive approach that began in a Test series against New Zealand that was drawn 1-1.

Batsman Joe Root is one of only four players - along with Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Mark Wood - to be involved in both the Test and limited-overs sides.

After being named man of the match for his 68 in the T20 win at Old Trafford, the Yorkshireman said England must continue to play with positivity if they are to avenge the 5-0 Ashes defeat suffered in Australia in 2013-14.

"It's hard to explain, but everyone has gone out this summer with a freedom and it's really refreshing to see everyone commit to it and absolutely go for it," said the 24-year-old.

"The way we are playing we want to keep developing and keep improving. This summer has been a really good start with all that.

"We have some important cricket coming up and it is really exciting."

Root won the player of the match award after hitting nine boundaries on his way to 68 runs off 46 balls
