County Championship: Glamorgan tail sets Leicestershire tough target

Andrew Salter's previous highest score in first-class cricket was 25 not out

Glamorgan recovered from a poor morning session to set Leicestershire a tough target on the third day in Cardiff.

After losing Colin Ingram early for 60, they were in trouble on 105-6 after a four-wicket burst by Ben Raine.

But skipper Jacques Rudolph's defiant 72 and Andrew Salter's 54 not out, his first Championship half century, saw them reach 298 all out.

Raine's 5-43 was a career-best, but facing a target of 324, his side struggled to stumps on 75-3.

Having ended their long wait for a Championship win by beating Essex earlier this month, Leicestershire must have been hopeful of making it two when Raine, having had Ingram caught behind, removed Chris Cooke, Craig Meschede and Mark Wallace without addition from 105-3.

Rudolph, however, batted for almost five and a quarter hour before playing on, and Salter hit three sixes and seven fours as he and Michael Hogan (37) added 70 in eight overs.

With 30 overs to bat before the close, Leicestershire lost Angus Robson, Ned Eckersley and skipper Mark Cosgrove (14), but Matthew Boyce survived on 33 not out, with his side needing to score another 249 on the final day for victory.

Glamorgan's Andrew Salter told BBC Wales Sport:

"I'm chuffed to get that first fifty, I've been working really hard in the nets to try to get a performance like that so I'm definitely happy it happened today.

"Jacques Rudolph played absolutely brilliantly, his knock was the anchor to our innings when Raine did get those wickets in a short space of time, he kept it ticking over and was the rock to our innings.

"It's exciting (having the chance of a fourth straight win) and we've played good cricket. We've had similar wins and if we execute our skills well I'm sure we can do it."
