Leicestershire had not won a Championship match for two seasons before Andrew McDonald's appointment as head coach

Leicestershire head coach Andrew McDonald has signed a new deal that will keep him at Grace Road until the end of the 2017 season.

McDonald, who has made four Test appearances for Australia, previously played for the county before taking on his coaching role in November 2014.

The 34-year-old took over a team who had failed to win in the Championship for two consecutive seasons.

They ended their long wait for a four-day victory by beating Essex in June.

That success is Leicestershire's only win from nine Championship games in 2015 and they lie second from bottom of Division Two.

But the county have made promising start to this season's T20 Blast and are third in the North Group with four wins from nine games.
